Dreaming....Vacation spots.
We have a few dreams about travel. Seeing the world...Mostly just getting away from "it all". Here's the spots we've been to and loved, the simple and adventurous vacations we've enjoyed and the places we are dreaming of going...Someday.
1. Camping. Believe it or not we love to camp. All of us are pretty good campers. We do the real camping....In a tent, although the Mrs. Of this family is working on convincing the Mr. that an upgrade in technology to a pop-up (with air conditioning) is becoming evident! We really love the Buffalo River in Northern Arkansas for a camp trip. It is beautiful and peaceful. All we need is a friend with a guitar to go with us for evenings around the campfire and it would be perfect. This is a trip we try to make every year.
2. Eureka Springs--where we spent our honeymoon. Fun and quaint. Good place for a weekend get away for any couple.
3. San Antonio. We love this place. The downtown is amazingly clean and lovely. The Riverwalk is nice and full of all kinds of restaraunts. Although what else would you eat in San Antonio than Mexican food!?! We did a night ride around the downtown in a horse-drawn carriage. The girls still talk about that horse named, "Barney". We stayed at the St. Anthony hotel in downtown. Beautiful. Plus our friends the Brinkleys lead worship at COTR there. Great place for a family.
4. Drives through the country. Not really a destination but we love it. We love the country and we daydream collectively about our "place in the country"...our "farm".
5. The US Virgin Islands. Jessica has dreamed of going to the USVIs since high school. We were so blessed this last March when all of us took a major family vacation to the Virgin Islands. We stayed on St. John and the beaches were beautiful. Really the world's most amazing beaches. We played on them, hopping from one to another all day. The snorkeling, the fruit drinks, the sunsets...Wow....We want to go back and stay on the island of St. Croix and many other Caribbean destinations. Jessica's dream retirement is on the beach. (chad wants to split time between the farm in the rolling hills with mountains in the backdrop and Jessica's beach house.)
6. New York City. Jessica and Chad went there in 2004 for the national convention. It is the kind of place that we would never want to live but was cool to visit. Alive always. Chinatown..amazing, Little Italy, Central Park, Lady Liberty, the Museums and much more. It was fun to visit and Hannah want to go there too. We want to take the girls back sometime.
7. Snow Skiing. Neither of us have ever been snow skiing and we've decided that it is a vacation we should take earlier in life, rather than in the "twilight years". We've always said that we will go snow skiing on our 10th wedding anniversary. We just don't want to go to Colorado or Arizona but instead want to go to a real New England ski resort, quaint, fresh maple syrup and all in New Hampshire or Vermont.
8. Fly fishing on the Snake River in Idaho. OK so this is really just Chad's dream of a great vacation. No shopping.....a river named "snake"...uh, Jessica is not convinced of this one yet. Starting to sound like an ideal "Father and Son" bonding trip one day!
9. Family vacations. The girls want to go to Mt. Rushmore and see the Presidents' faces. We also want to do the other typical Western vacations. Yellowstone, the Grand Canyon, etc.
10. Spain. Jessica has always wanted to go to Spain. Not sure why. It just seems fascinating. Chad has promised a trip to Spain on the 25th wedding anniversary. It will be well earned by then (: !
11. We've also been to DC several times and that's pretty cool. Every family should go. The history really is neat stuff and the monuments are beautiful all lit up at night. We've also been to Philadelphia....good history but the real treat was our drive out to Amish country.
12. A royal family. Hannah and Grace wants to go to Europe....to see it but mainly to see a real king, queen, prince and princess. H says she wants to see these folks with her own eyes.

Wow, you've really thought this vacation thing out. I'm not a big traveler though it does sound more inviting now that I'm not moving all the time. Moving always ruined any vacation plans. Our family vacation when I was growing up was going to Disneyland for a day! That was great and I wouldn't trade it for anything. Have ya'll been to Disneyworld?
I'm like Jessica....my idea of a dream vacation is just laying around on a beach somewhere beautiful. But Jeremiah doesn't like any vacation that has to do with sun and sweat!! We've thought about going to Branson this summer for a few days, but who knows.
Anyways, thanks for the ideas.

Ironically, I guess the lack of humidity in the Virgin Islands helped. I don't remember really sweating there.
We haven't been to Disneyworld or Disneyland. The girls think this would be fun so we'll have to but it just doesn't sound fun to me!

i love traveling too! dustin is not the "beachy" type either. he has ear problems so he can't swim, and he isn't big on wearing summer clothes. ;)
Hannah and Grace wanting to see a "real Queen" reminds me of a story Angelea told me about Hannah's queenly ways.
She said that Hannah was holding a wand or sceptor or something that made her "the queen" and "the queen" didn't have to help pick up toys (Grace's job) and "the queen" didn't have to help straighten up the living room (also Grace's job). She kept ordering Grace around and waving her wand and Grace finally stopped and gave her that little Gracie scowl and said, "gimme that stick!"
I guess it was the wand that held all the royal power.
I'm so happy Jessica finally got her Island vacation, she always told me she would visit someday. There's nothing like a fulfilled dream. :)

We took our children on a spring break snow skiing trip to Vermont. We stayed and skiied at Smuggler's Notch, Vermont. It was absolutely beautiful and very family-friendly. Highly recommended!!
